Our 2004 Ford E350 has started making a weird noise at start up and i dont know what it is. Recently i have changed the serp belting thinking it was bad (i think it was the original factory one) and it didnt help. It seems to like to do it when it is colder out, it does it far less when the ambient temp is high. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Like stated above, it is a 2004 Ford E350 van, with the 5.4L v8 and auto transmission.

My lawn mower does the same thing. It sounds like the starter bendix. Once the starter bendix engages the flywheel it stays engaged till the engine runs fast enough to cause it to return to its normal position. If the shaft the bendix rides on is rusty, contaminated or worn out it will make this sound. Depending on the age and mileage you should either replace the bendix or starter and bendix together. If I am correct, it only does it on start up and always quits when you rev the engine.
Ya kinda sounds like a starter bendix. Just to rule out anything else take the belt off and try it. that will eliminate all the driven components on the engine, I have seen a fan clutch make a similar sound.

It only does it upon start up and only for about 1-2 seconds.
