so i saw a car on the local craigslist for 400 dollars the owner says they took it to a shop because it started over heating and they said they tested for head gasket failure and it wasnt head gasket but intake gasket now when i read this i thought for sure it was head gasket failure and the owner just did not know what they where talking about so is it even possible to be leaking coolant from an intake ?

It depends on what engine is in it. If it’s an overhead cam 3.0 (Duratech)it’s not likely the intake is leaking coolant. If it’s the overhead valve engine It’s VERY possible the intake gasket is leaking.

i might buy it to get it fixed but i want to be sure that this is even a possible sittuation before i go out and spend 900 bucks on a broken car because i dont want to or can afford to sink alot of money into a car to fix it

Yeah…Be careful. Those cars were known for worn ball joints and broken coil springs also.

Yes it is possible for an intake gasket to leak coolant into the engine. If that’s all that’s wrong with that car you might make out. This article might also help.
