I want to put some fog lights on my truck. I’m looking at some led lights. Im looking at a set that is dust water and shock resistant 4 LEDs per light and I want to say it has 1200 lumens flood lights. Another one I’m looking at is not rectangular and comes in a set of one but cost about the same for 2 but my question is is the lumen rating per light? Or is it per each light? Or as a set? And has anyone used these kinds of lights and had good success with them? I’m new to leds but I have done some regular light wiring on my truck. thanks for any help

Here’s my take on the matter. First, what truck is it? If it is a newer truck 99+ I would recommend OEM fog lights if you are mounting them inside the bumper. Plus, usually the wiring is already there for them. Second, LEDs are great if you get the right ones for the right application. They are much better than HIDs and require less hardware and power. An LED light will use less power than a regular incandescent bulb as well. That said, I don’t know how you are mounting it nor your truck and year so that’s all I can give you with limited info.

In my experience building several front ends up with lighting for rally racing and back road fun LED just isn’t quite there yet. They are bright as all hell but don’t project the light as good. HID fogs are nice but you have to start getting crafty placing the ballest and running all the wiring. When it comes to accessory lights absolutly go for OEM if there is a set made for that vehicle. If not always always always buy from one of the big reputable companies IE Hella, PIAA, etc. I prefer Hella to most, I like the quality. All the big companies also sell pre made wiring/relay kits that are quick to install with a few snips and zip ties.

My last bit of advice is when you do install whatever fogs you go with, please whatever you do use a relay…..I love seeing melted switches fall out of the dash.
