Can anyone recommed a good floor jack? I’ve heard mixed feelings about Arcan and HF jacks.

I’ve used the 3 ton steel harbor frieght floor jack now for two years now. I suppose its dependent on how often you need to use it and if you need a low profile and if weight is an issue. I haven’t had an issue with mine though and I use it at least once a week.

At my father’s tire shop we used to use Northern Tool Branded Jacks – they had extended warranties, but before using the warranty they lasted 4-5 years of continuous use in a fairly high volume shop.

Here’s the exact one we used if I remember correctly.

I was thinking about just getting a HF jack and then get some good stands.

I was looking at that exact Arcan jack today.

That Jack from Northern worked wonderfully. My only complaint is that it’s extremely heavy.

I’m a weightlifter/bodybuilder and that 3 ton harbor freight one is no exception. It weighs upwards of 80 lbs and it’s a PIA… but IMO I’d rather lift the weight than pay twice as much for the aluminum one. Truth of it is, you rarely should have to lift it anyway.

If you are working on cars and light trucks, don’t buy less than 2.5 Ton capacity as you will need to pick up a side or end at a time. I don’t know about their jacks but Harbor Freight Jack stands are OK if you overrate them.

I have a Big Red 3 Ton combo, purchased from PepBoys about a year ago.

It includes a 3 Ton low profile floor jack and two 3 Ton jacks stands.

On sale for $99, ordered online for in-store pickup for an additional 20% off.

It is a little tight on the release to lower, but getting better with every use, and the jack stands work great.

I ended up getting this jack. I haven’t used it yet but it looks good.
