Notice this is and old video

Engine was replaced and had this ticking noise(noise heard in video)
Took it back to the shop and they replaced the whole engine free of charge
Before they brought the vehicle back to me, they are hearing the same tick

Could this be flex plate related? Loose bolts? Etc? They are going to test it Monday to figure out what it is but I’d like some opinions so I can throw them a bone and get my jeep back. It is a 3.7l V6 with 0 miles. Transmission was always great before engine replacement.

Got to be a lifter. The frequency is wrong for anything else. Something associated with every revolution of the engine like the flex plate would happen about 600(RPM) times per minute or 10 times per second. A lifter would strike once every 4 engine cycles or about 2.5 times per second (much slower).

The tick sound is occurring at the same frequency that a plug would fire at idle speed. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak at the manifold or a plug wire arcing. I won’t say it’s a lifter because you said the engine was replaced and the ticking remained. Try running the engine in total darkness and look for high voltage arcing.

sounds like a lifter tick, does the noise change depending on engine temperature?

new lifters can be faulty, its always a possibility and nothing to dismiss, but also takes T-Rex advice…

Ticking does not change with temperature, don’t think it’s a lifter because of it having the same ticking noise (so they said, I don’t know I haven’t gotten the jeep back yet) now that they put a totally different engine in
I’m going to speak with the installer Monday (11:52 pm right now) so hopefully I can get to the bottom of it and hear it for myself. The vehicle is 3 hours away so I can’t really see it right now. I don’t think it’s arcing either. As for manifold leak, not really convinced being that it’s heard towards the front of the transmission.
