My new project on the 95 Chevy blazer is putting on a new flex plate. I am finding lots of things wrong on this beast. There was a slight hesitation and a clunk clunk and then it would start so today I decided to pull the starter to look at the flex plate and starter to look at the teeth and both parts. After I pulled the starter I saw that most of the flex plate’s teeth where rounded. So now I’m gonna put a new flex plate in it. I was hoping someone could briefly explain what needs to take place on changing that out. Also Can someone tell me how many bolts attach the transmission to the motor. Well I appreciate everyone’s help I can never say thank you enough. Take care

Its going to be a huge job as you will need to remove the entire transmission as well as having all the right tools and equipment particularly a lift or some heavy duty jack stands. A trans jack would be a good idea also.

I would look at the free Chilton’s online link that is posted in the ‘How To’ section.

Also when you reinstall the starter, check out this video of Eric’s –

He shows you how to shim the starter for correct clearance.

He also has some other video’s of engine swaps you might want to check out so you know what you are getting yourself into.

I pretty much means you need to remove the transmission to get to it. It just so happens that I posted a video today that will help you align the starter when you are all done, here’s a link.

I f this is a 4×4 you will have a transfer case to deal with. I recommend picking up an engine support bar ( as seen in erics escort video ) harbor freight has them. a good floor jack and heavy duty jack stands. the upper bell housing bolts can be some trouble- try and get a 30” long extension for them. make sure to replace ( not reuse ) the flex plate to crank mounting bolts ( they will need a little dab of the ” blue ” loctight ) also- with the trans out before putting it together check the freeze plugs at the back of the block. if you see any leakage at all change them at that time – if you have high milage or a cooling system that was not properly maintained I would do them just to be safe , hate for you to have to pull the trans a month later to change leaking freeze plugs ( trust me on this as I been there and done that cause I got in a hurry and did not check those freeze plugs )
