Today I was going 70 on the highway, having a nice surly drive, then I heard this massive bang and then a horrible scraping sound coming from under the car. I pulled over expecting the worse, opened the hood checked the usual suspects. Everything seemed fine. So I look under the car and this is what I found:

So now I have a 2 inch hole in my floor pan. And a pair of free pliers. Not even sure where to begin with fixing this.

personally if you have no fuel leaks or break fluid leaks which would be the first thing i would check, i would maybe have a body shop fill in the hole so moisture doesn’t get in, or at least spray paint the hole in the floor pan so it wont rust. we have some body shop guys that can probably give you a better answer

Yep, first thing I did was look around with a flashlight to see if anything was leaking. So far so good.

I’m visiting my grandma at her cottage so most of my tools and my garage are 500 miles away 🙁

There is a great auto parts shop in town though, so what kind of paint would you recommend? Would rock guard work be what I’m looking for?

Personally, if the rest of the car weren’t already a rotting piece of turd (can’t tell from your picture) I would go ahead and have a body shop fix that up. If the car is decent, it would be well worth having them straighten the steel back out, and weld it closed, then prep and paint it properly to keep it from rusting and rotting away on you.

i was thinking what Tomh was thinking but weither or not that would be a absolute solution i would not be sure, not a body shop tech guy more of a motor head, have a reputable body shop patch that up, you don’t want moisture and dirt getting anywhere you don’t need it, especially if you have lots of road salt in your area.

This method is perfect for that.
