      Hello Ericthecarguy forum,

Recently i have bought myself a 1999 cadillac seville sts.
This is the first time i have owned or driven an automatic car.(I am from europe)
I have noticed when i shift into drive or reverse the car jerks a little bit i was wondering if this is normal?
I did bring the car to a mechanic before buying but he did not seem to have much experience(or interest) with american cars.
The car has 96k miles and other than the jerking when engaging R or D it shifts fine.

      Thanks!

      Ralf,

If it is a slight but noticeable nudge when everything engages, that is normal.

That is normal for an automatic. I think its cause of Torque converter engaging.(Someone who knows better than I surely can answer that). The only time it should of be a concern is if it’s jarring severely or making really bad sounds like grinding.
