this is a 2002 mustang GT 4.6 engine. I followed to the letter on what was to be done in the break in period, when changing my oil/filter for the first time at 800 miles on the dot, I found quite a decent amount of shimmer in the oil or particals. all very small and almost all inside the oil filter. Is this something that I should be worried about? the bottom end of the motor has 20k ish miles on it, had to do a valve job because of a dead cyl. running mobile 1 fully synthetic oil. the best oil you can get from mobile 1, also running their oil filter.
ill see if i can get some decent pictures.

if you continue to see what looks like metalica particals inside your oil after a couple of oil changes i would do a oil pressure test to make sure your oil pressure is good and steady… if there is issues with bearings wearing out and flaking off this may be able to be identified by doing a oil pressure test.

In short if it runs smooth, after a few more oil changes if you continue to see metal flakes check oil pressure.

i am runing synth. how soon do you think i should atleast pull the oil filter again, and do i need to keep changing oil and all each time on the intervals, or wait the normal 7k?. also to note, all the flakes have an almost silver look to them, no copper or any other colors.

What failed, requiring a top end rebuild? It’s possible that what you’re seeing is left over crap from the original failure.

An oil analysis will tell you what type of metal(s) is/are contaminating your oil, which might point you towards particular components.

valves on cyl # 5 stoped seating properly, no top end damage really. was running decent on 7 cyl’s. but since we had to rework the valves i just future proofed, or at least we thought it was a good idea to rebuild the top end while we were at it. some of the other cyl’s were seeping around the valves.. bad engine from jasper, out of warenty range sadly, amazing looking car just nothing but engine problems since ive got the thing. gonna get a picture of the oil filter cut open. figured i would take a closer look and see what metal is hiding stuck inside the filter.

Really need to find out what the “shimmer” or particles are.
Often on an engine rebuild or major maintenance, anti-seize, moly lube, and other assembly lube (hopefully no sealer) will mix into the oil and create a shimmer in the oil.
