Finding replacement spring clips for Ford CV axles

I need to pull the CV axles on my wife’s 2003 Escape to replace the inner CV boots. The FSM says that any time you remove an axleshaft from the transmission, you should discard and replace the spring clip that sits in the groove at the transmission end of the shaft.

The Ford parts catalog doesn’t seem to list the spring clips as separate parts. Does anybody know if they’re generic things that can be bought at any auto parts store, or are they going to be dealer-only items?

Usually they just come with the axle itself, along with a nut. The latter is generally suggested for a one time use by most manufacturers.

Reality however is that unless it’s damaged or deformed, just reinstall the axle with the hardware it came with. Again, assuming it’s in good condition.
