Hi,
My friend has got an early 2000′ Fiat Stilo (1.2l engine). The car intermittently overheads. Engine temprature jumps to 110/130 C (should be ~90C) and engine loses power. The car was already diagnosed by a shop that specializes in italian cars, but they gave up after:
– checking and replacing(3 times) the thermostat
– checking and replacing radiator and full flush of cooling system.
– checking the water pump
– checking heater for obstructions and leaks
– checking all the rubber hoses.
– replacement of the head gasket and cleaning of water passages inside the engine.Their observation is also that running the engine without thermostat stops the engine from overheating.
This looks like the obvious reason but it was changed 3 times already (as mentioned above). Of course the car can run without the thermostat but its not really the solution for the problem. Do you have any suggestion what to check next or what it might be?Thank in advance
