Ever since I got it 4 years ago, my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L has had a feeling of “slack” at the start of the brake pedal travel – you have to press it down past the slack before you start feeling any resistance. I want to feel resistance as soon as I start pressing the pedal.
It has new front calipers and hoses, rebuilt rear drums (including new cylinders), and has been thoroughly bled. None of that has made any difference to that annoying bit of slop at the start of the pedal travel. It doesn’t affect actual braking performance, it’s purely a “feel” thing.
Would I be right in thinking that if I’m able to push the brake pedal a certain distance before I feel any resistance, it’s probably something to do with the booster and/or master cylinder, given that the pedal acts directly on the booster which acts directly on the cylinder?
