Just wondering if you have a video showing how to replace a fan shroud an EGR valve on a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, Also was told there was a solenoid in a black box along the frame on the drivers side that may be causing the problem with the gascap and engine light and was wondering if you had a video for this aswell? Thanks

I would have to go back to the garage to get them to pull the codes, I had the truck in for and oil change and he saw the engine light on so he checked to see what the problem was and told me it was the EGR valve on truck #1, while talking to him I told him I have another ram at home and the gascap and engine light are on, he said there is a solenoid inside the black box that I could try cleaning before replacing parts so I already know what the problems are, this truck also has the broken fan shroud. I was just wondering if there was a video showing how to repair the problems. Thanks

I was actually talking with steve the guy that made this video, but he was not sure if the shroud would come out without removing anymore parts and told me to ask a mechanic to be sure, do you know if the shroud would come out after removing the rad? Thanks

I don’t have any videos on what you’re asking for at the moment, sorry.

It would be nice to have those codes so I’ll wait on answering those. Evaporator leak codes can be tricky to nail down but the codes help provide a general area to start your diagnosis.

As for the fan shroud I do remember that being a pain on the Dodge ram I did an engine on a couple of years ago. To be honest I don’t remember what I did but here is a link to that video.

Well I had to replace the alternator today so I disconnected the cables from the battery, when I reconnected the cables after I was done I noticed that I wasn’t getting the gas cap message on my dash but the engine light was still on. Took the truck for a drive into town to charge the battery and after making a few stops and restarting the truck a few times the engine light also went out, If the engine light or the gas cap message comes back on, I will come back with the codes for some help. Still need to change the fan shroud but I will wait til its a little warmer. Thanks P.S love the videos they are very helpful.

Sometimes, all they need is to be reset, especially if you have a low voltage situation caused by a low battery or faulty charging system. Keep us posted if things change. Thanks for the update.

Well it was looking good for a few weeks without any lights on the dash. The engine light came on so I put the code reader on and got code P0404, the next day wife was driving home and the hand brake , ESP/BAS light and the traction control lights came on and I cant get a code from the code reader. Any idea what might be going on. Thanks

You will need to get a good professional scanner or ABS code reader to pull those codes for the traction control/brake problem or have them pulled for you.. Most Garden Variety OBD II code readers will not pull codes for ABS/SRS…. and I haven’t seen a part store that will pull ABS/Airbag codes….

Here is an example of an ABS code reader…

OK Thanks I’m going in for an oil change soon and will get them to get the codes, Any idea about the P0404 code and is it ok for the wife to drive the truck, I don’t want her driving it if its not safe. Thanks again

When the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and the BAS (Brake Assist System) light comes on, it usually means there is something wrong with the braking sensor system (or Vehicle speed sensor on Transmission is giving some sketchy information)… Hopefully it is just a bad wheel speed sensor… These are easy enough to inspect… but the code must be pulled to help deduce where the problem is.

A simple Brake light is indicative of problems with the brake system… can be many things from simply low fluid to the parking brake being left on….(or a sensor that tells that the parking brake is applied) and other things!!!

When a brake light is on, and you are in over your head (not implying that you are) I recommend you take it to a professional shop that you trust.
