      Hi Folks,

I am planning to work on a F22A engine from a Honda accord. I have been visiting the junkyard in my area removing several camshafts and observing different heads too.

I notice in certain engines like f22a6, the camshaft journals are scored. I can slide my nail and feel ridges.

The same thing on the camshaft too. Some camshafts have deep scoring, and others medium scoring.

Does this mean the camshaft is garbage? and the the head too? What amount of scoring is acceptable for camshaft and journal? Anyone have any experiencing with this before?

i think from a technician’s perspective, the correct answer will most likely be ‘no scoring’ is acceptable. mic the cam lobes and see if they are in spec. otherwise, i would not use these parts. take them down to a machine shop and see if they can do anything with them. i would recommend carquest, they usually have some good machine shops.
