Once I spent days trying to determine why an electrical circuit I was designing did not have the bandwidth that I expected. I measured with my test generator over and over, but always it was low. The theory said it should work, and the components were correct, but still the same result.

A very sharp and experienced engineer looked at my problem and asked me what the bandwidth of my test generator was. I never thought that my circuit might have a wider bandwidth than the test equipment was capable of testing.

I learned a lesson about the value of experience that day. It’s important to have an open mind so that you can hear when the voice of experience talks to you. It usually comes in an unexpected way and from an unexpected source.
