Have a UK Ford Focus (Mk 2.5 – 2009) which has an odd noise when raising the rpm above approx 3000k either driving or neutral.

It seems to be louder and coming from under the car when the door is open, as if maybe it’s an exhaust heat shield?
Any other suggestions? 🙂

Yeah, it does sound like an exhaust heat shield. If you can get under the car try tapping on the shields with a rubber mallet if you have one. That way you can tell which one is loose.

Unfortunately I don’t at present have any lifting equipment, and as the car has only been mine for just over a week I returned it to the garage I bought it from for them to have a look.
It’s been diagnosed as a failing cat which is going to be replaced under warranty.
