Has anyone else noticed that GM 5.3L & 6.0L exhaust manifolds shrink? I’ve replaced gobs of broken bolts on the rear cylinders, some without too much issue. The last couple I’ve worked on I couldn’t get the replacement bolts in -I’ll bet the misalignment was almost 1/4″ (like 1/2 a bolt hole!)

It was so common on small block GM’s they made a tool to help get bolts back in…

Yeah, GM manifolds suck but the Ford Triton manifolds are just as bad or worse. I have seen them rot until they have holes in them. They aren’t cast iron anymore they are just cheap crap.

You haven’t had a real treat until you have replaced an exhaust manifold in a later model Ford van. They make you want to move to another profession.

very common too hear the sound of a leaky exhaust on a Ford truck, hear it all the time, almost a tick sound but that is just a exhaust manifold leak on one cylinder because they rot out and leak and it sounds so horrible!

then dodge engines they do that too, and also just sound horrible, but many people don’t have the money or time to fix the leaky manifold so it stays leaky.

I did many 5.3L & 6.0L exhaust manifolds under warranty….Ford’s not so much…they must fail later…think God I didn’t have to do them…Chevy was bad enough.

That and along with working on Ford Diesel engines: 6.0,6.5,6.7, GM Duramax, most late model Ford cars and GM vehicles’ with the 3.6 L gas engine’s.

              I moved to another profession….retirement.
