Own a 61 Ford Ranchero 170 inline 6. The exhaust manifold gasket is old and worn out and the owner who owned it was wise enough to double gaskit the thing. Can I use Rtv Copper on it to solve the problem than buying another gasket? or is it better to have one to prevent seizure? or should I Apply both or just the gasket if the case? What will last the longest in the terms of leaks and seizures? Thanks

        Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Buy and fit a good quality gasket which is what the engine and exhaust system was designed for. Properly fitted and the manifold bolts correctly torqued you will get many years of use. I have yet to have one fail on any car I have owned.

Yes I know you have a Ford.

Hope they still make them to fit that engine.

RTV Copper is some awesome stuff, but not THAT awesome. That manifold gets mighty hot. I would be VERY surprised if ANY kind of silicone held up to that heat!

Go get a new, good quality exhaust gasket, and be done with it.

make sure you get the exhaust manifold bolts nice and hot before you take them off. If you don’t have a torch then you can just run the car for awhile to heat them up. Penetrating oil helps too, but apply it and let it sit for awhile before you heat up the bolts.

I’d recommend replacing the gasket. I’m not a fan of ‘band aids’. If you’re having trouble finding parts, you might find this place helpful.

If you have any more sites, Id be more than happy to find parts. Its been the hardest headache just to find the simplest part. I need a slip yoke
