      Hi everyone,

I have a question that is not pertinent but I cannot find any answer online.
      I drive a 1996 Toyota Tacoma, 2RZ 4 cyl
The exhaust cam gear on it is split into two and a bolt needs to lock the two in place when it is removed. I understand it is spring loaded but I’m not 100% sure why..Is this because it is for some type of variable valve timing? I heard there is not VVT on this engine, but I cannot think of any other possibilities. Just curious and wanting to know. Thanks for the answers.
