exhaust broken right behind the catalytic converte

Volvo 850 Wagon. Don’t know how to weld.
Is there some type of adaptor I can get to reconnect the two pieces? Or am I better off going to a muffler shop and have them weld in a new piece?

Probably less stressful to just have the muffler shop weld if they will without selling you an entirely new system. Does not look like enough space to put on a sleeve and if you buy sleeves and clamps you get into the same price as welding.

The exhaust behind the cat looks very badly rusted in any event so you are going to have to replace it sooner or later anyway. Any competent exhaust shop can sort that easily. I would fix the whole thing properly first up and not nickel and dime it.

Got it welded back from Midas for $150. I over paid, but didn’t have time to shop around.

The car must have aftermarket cheap quality cat. It is really rusted up to the connection point, then it looks fine afterward.
