Excessive Oil Consumption

Hello There,

Vehicle Specs:
1997 Toyota Corolla DX
1.8L I4 Engine DOHC
3 Speed w/OD Auto Trans
216,000 Miles
Last Oil Change: 3,000 miles ago

I have a question about possible excessive oil consumption. I checked my engine oil today and it has been 3,000 miles since last oil change. The oil level is halfway between the low and full dots on the dipstick. Is this excessive? If it’s not then what is the normal engine oil consumption for my car?

I assume your dipstick reads 1 quart between the high and low markings.
In which case 1/2 a quart in 3,000 miles is nothing to concern yourself with.

A turbocharged Subaru with those kind of miles, in decent condition, might use 5X that much oil.

216,000 miles I would say this is normal. Seals and gaskets are getting age.Normal wear and tear would be my simple answer.

Thats nothing to worry about, thats normal oil consumption, my car is in good order and also burns about 1/2 quart every 3k oil chang
