      Anyone know of any videos or tutorials for replacing evap canister on 99 honda civic ex. Was told this may fix my evap problem and clear code P1457 so i can finally pass smog.. thanks for any input.

        before you change the evap canister. check all the
        hoses for splits.next make sure the solenoids are
        operating.

          Are the solenoids n valves seperate frm the canister itself? I located the actual canisterseems pretty easy to access,not sure about the other parts location.

            There will be a solenoid at the fuel tank that purges the vapors to the canister, and another that allows air into the system. The will be separate from the canister.

            Edit: They might not be solenoids, but pressure valves. I need to hit my books.

              Ic ill check the hoses aswell, just found a loose hose near my intake its open.ended dont know where the other end goes. Would this trip a CEL? Wonder how much a vacuum or smoke test cost. Need to pin point the leak so i dont spend money on parts not needed

                You can’t go about it that way meaning you can’t throw parts at it and expect to fix it. In order to diagnose it you may need a smoke machine and the factory service procedure. You can check all the hoses and connections as suggested as that is a great place to start however you also need to test the solenoids for proper operation and any leakage and for that you would likely need a smoke machine and the service procedure mentioned. A P1457 involves a lot of parts and you need to check them all. In fact this may be for a different car (and a different code) but it does show much of what is involved.
