      Greetings ETCGers.

Last night when i opened the 5th door in my 2006 euro Focus i noticed that the trunk bulb didn’t light. I changed the bulb and didn’t light again. So, i used my multimeter and i noticed that i get 12 Volts on the bulb socket but when i put the bulb in it, i get almost 0 Volts (0.02-0.03V) therefore i suspect that there is a short in the line.
Well… Enough is enough with the talking.

-12.01 Volts in the socket ( without a bulb) when the 5th door is opened

-0.02 Volts when the 5th door is closed. So, we confirm that the Trunk door sensor is working properly. In case of not working properly i suspect that i would get a “trunk door opened” signal on my dash.

-0.03 Volts. 5th Door is opened, (new) bulb is in the socket. So there is a short in the line. I removed ALL the side panels following these two wires and noticed nothing at all.

I forgot to mention that alla the fuses in the Fuse box are OK.. So?

      Any suggestions/help would be appreciated!

If power is not constant work your way back to the switch.

Thank you College man. Can you be more specific? Switch? Meaning?

With the bulb installed in the socket, try flicking and jiggling the hatch switch and it’s wiring to see if you can get the bulb to illuminate.

Ok… I’ll locate the 2 wires from the hatch switch to the bulb and jiggle them and see what happens.
Perhaps there is a short (or something wrong) inside the switch…

              I’ll keep you updated.

check the hatch switch for corrosion or loose wire. Jump the switch to see if the
light stays on. you may need to clean or exercise the switch. keep us posted. 🙂

Thank you College man. I found the problem some time ago but i have the time now to share my findings.

The problem was in the light switch inside the rear door lock switch. I found the entire schematics for a later MY Ford Focus (for the facelifted version) but the colors of the switch matched perfectly with the ones i had on my rear door.
So, there are 4 wires (4 pins). Pin 4 is hot at all times (12V) and pin 2 grounds the light circuit when the door is opened. I used my multimeter and crossed the 4 and 2 pins from the harness and ….voila! Bulb lighted immediately. So the is a ground perhaps inside the light switch which cannot be opened and repaired.
Finally i used a LED bulb to light my trunk. Not a perfect solution but it’s cheaper than getting a new rear door lock switch.

Entire Schematics concerns MY 2010 Euro spec so if anyone is interested, i can email him a copy.

Thanks for you help guys, much appreciated!
