      Hey Eric and all,

Recently been thinking about the future and where I want to be and do. This has then got me thinking about possibly opening my own repair shop later on in life. Obviously its a lot more complicated than that. I think it would be good to hear advice from someone like you’re self, knowing the in’s and out’s of this trade.

So I ask for maybe a video on ‘So your thinking of starting your own repair shop’ video.

      Thanks

      SD

That it is a noteworthy video and a good one at that, thanks btw! It would be nice to get an idea of the whole aspect. Like workshop set up, tool set up, overheads, location, accumulating a costumer base, advertising, wages, presentation that kinda idea.

I’m very keen to get a good plan mapped out, gives me a good amount of drive to pursue this ‘dream’. It may seem odd to some but providing people with good honest work that makes costumers happy is what I hope to do.

I think the posted video is a great start. As for the rest, you really have to figure that out on your own as every shop and customer base is different. I think the most important take away from the video however is that you really need to know what you’re getting into. I strongly recommend that you work in the business for a while before opening your own shop. Your chances of success go up dramatically. Running a business these days is difficult enough, especially an auto repair business.

You really can’t use what I do as a business model for an auto repair shop. I don’t run a repair business. I run a video production business. Trust me, they are very different things.

I can also cite this video:

All that Eric says in this video is so true… even in other technical professions, like mine (Computer technician) and this is something you have to consider.
Knowing how to work is just the half of the pie. You also need how to manage it.

It is true. The profession will wear on you over time. Especially if you’re running a business. Customers can be challenging at times. The work can be too. I will say that there’s nothing like running your own business though. In some ways you feel like your participating in the American dream, not just hoping for it. Bottom line, don’t ever forget you’re running a business. It’s like a pet that you need to feed a nurture in order for it to grow and thrive. A business preferred food is money. Manage it wisely.

                Good luck.
