I’m sure this was a bit unexpected but I think it will work out well. What are your thoughts?

What a GREAT introduction video that was! Such a cool car, and I can seriously tell how much you love it. Probably the best ride-along video I’ve ever seen, with all those camera angles, (under-the-hood camera are you kidding me?!?!)
My only other comment right now is about those floaties attached to the front bumper. They look something like a U.S. add-on to a European car. Can you remove those to expose that beautiful bumper, or do you plan on keeping those?

Maybe scare some children.
Could not stop laughing!

Honestly, I’m not looking to build the engine, I’d rather go with a crate and not have to worry about it. It’s also often cheaper to go that rout. Who knows, perhaps Jegs or someone like that might come along and want to sponsor the build.
K-member is easy to swap, seeing as how you’ll have the motor out. Once the motor is out, remove the coil springs then its just 8 bolts and the k-member is out.November 24, 2013 at 1:38 am #564660
I saw your video. I was thinking of getting an older car just like yours. Eric. I just thought of something. Why don’t you approach SPEED TV and work out a deal to get your own show. I know that you will do well Prime Time on TV.
Keep doing what you do. You are changing lives each day !
The only problem with that suggestion is if he signs a contract with a network they are allowed to control and often “own” Eric’s work. They will likely stop allowing him to post videos for free and will want some control over this website.
All Eric has to do is exactly what he is doing now and eventually he can build his own network. Look at Leo Laporte, he left TechTV and created the TWIT network and makes more money now and has full control of his own media.

I’m going to keep it an automatic. This isn’t the last car that I’ll own or use in a video, and at some point I’ll get a manual. For me a manual just wouldn’t work for this car. I’ve thought about it, I really have, but I just do see it. Nothing wrong with a well built automatic.
After watching your “torque converters explained” video and hearing about those old style torque converters that have the stator’s fins that could change their angle thus multiplying even more the torque, I’m wondering about putting one of these torque converters on your Oliver to give it even more “oomph”
Just an idea, I don’t even know if these torque converters are built or even compatible with a ford transmission.I was hoping that a ‘corporate’ sponsor might step in. I feel weird about taking money from fans of the show. I don’t have any issues with mentioning a brand during a video if they’re willing to send me go fast parts for the car. If it gets to a point where I really need money I’ll think about it, but for now I’m just happy to drive the car. I really enjoy it.
Thanks for your input.
On my behalf, please accept my apologies if I made you feel uncomfortable with my offers 🙂
If one day you put up a donation button for the mods on the car, I’ll still be there offering my little part.
Cheers! :cheer:Live long and prosper (and stay dirty!)

November 25, 2013 at 8:43 pm #564971Nice ride, I couldn’t find the specific Fairmont Forum you referred to. Very nice condition.
I have a 300 hours into a 1980 Camaro that was in about the same condition to start with. I stripped out the front suspension, wire wheel cleaned the frame and painted everything.
I have the suspension about 80% reassembled but still have to get the rad, hood and fenders on and aligned. The it paint and interior.
Good luck with the project, I look forward to the build. Start a BUY A PIECE OF THE PROJECT campaign to raise the funds.

That’s a good point. I forgot that the network is a BUNCH OF GREEDY PIGS !!!!

I often get asked about doing TV. Yes, that would be cool but TV is not the same as doing my webshow. Once you get people footing the bill for what you do they start to put their hands in it. I’d hate to take the past 5 years and blow it because I signed up for a show that turned out like crap. On the other hand, it could be very successful and propel ETCG to entirely new levels.
It’s a fine line you walk when you build a brand from the ground up. Thanks for your input.

Eric’s no sell-out!November 29, 2013 at 1:24 pm #565667Pretty clean looking car for the age. Not bad at all.
I used to have a Granada of that vintage with the 6 cylinder and it was a pretty reliable car although not what you would call an exciting ride.
If the car develops any warm engine starting issues in the summertime you might look at the vapor lock issue.
Sometimes the fiber blocks between the carb and intake manifold have been ditched over the years with someone just using a gasket only when the carb is off for whatever reason.
That just makes any vapor lock issue even more likely.November 29, 2013 at 4:21 pm #565683
Pretty clean looking car for the age. Not bad at all.

I would have slow crank issues because the starter would get hot because it was too close to the exhaust manifold. The fix was a fabricated metal shield. It didn’t cure it completely but it did get better. Old cars are fun.
November 30, 2013 at 12:48 pm #565920Its got the Inline 6. And low miles too. When you are ready to pull it out, I want it!
edit: provided the price is reasonable.
December 1, 2013 at 5:20 am #566025Hey Eric, I had a thought, I would love to see some nice hi-res pics of the Fairmont in a photoshoot on your Flickr account. I think it would be cool to see it in detail.

I thought of that also, especially since I haven’t posted there in a while. I just need to find the time to do it.
