Been using my dads tools for years now, and i’m starting to build up my own collection of tools.

I would ask my friends, but none of them are mechanics.

What are some essentials tools i should buy?

Also air tools. I want to build up my air tools as well. What air tools do you consider critical?

I know i need a 3/8 and 1/4 air ratchet, and a 3/8 and 1/2 air impact. But other than that, what do i need?

If money didn’t matter; Would you rather have a Snap On or IR air impact?

I use IR impact wrenches with Craftsman sockets and Chicago Pneumatic sockets. These made Taiwan impact sockets are above and beyond my expectations. I like them better than my Craftsman impact sockets and very cost effective.

Besides that it would be nice to have various size impact extensions and swivel socket extensions.

What kind of mechanic do you plan to be? automotive? truck?

          Air tools
          3/8 impact
1/4 ratchet I recommend the Mac AR249, good power and more low profile than others.
          1/2 impact
3/8 ratchet if you want, but not necessary. I dont use mine much anymore. Again I would recommend a Mac AR778 because of low profile head.
          Air Hammer-IR is good
          die grinder

Also dont overlook cordless power tools. I am in love with my Milwaukee 12v 1/4″ ratchet.

I prefer IR impacts over SO. But IR has 1 year warranty SO has 2 year warranty.

Basic hand tools-sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. I work on cars and light trucks and I think with 1/2″ sockets it isnt necessary to buy the best, generic sockets seem to hold up just fine. If you are going to do frontend work then the SO BJP1 balljoint press set is a must have.

Well Craftsman has a set for about 250 and that is a good set to start to build around. I will put a link here for you…
