Erratic idling and sometimes failure to run

OK! I drive a 00 Citroen Saxo, and sometimes, as the topic suggests, she idles like crazy. If I pull up to lights or to stop, sometimes she idles in excess of 3000rpm until I take the biting point of the clutch, which drops it down to around 1100rpm. Then sometimes I start her up, and she struggles to idle at a normal rate, and she just cuts out. Any ideas?

I read through all of that, and I think, hopefully, found the issue. Keep coming back to the idle control valve or the coolant temp sensor. My car had a stage of where it went through lower cooling hoses and got super hot, so I hope its not the latter, as the former is much easier to reach 😀

Don’t forget to also check for vacuum leaks before you replace any parts. You also want to check for air in the cooling system as the article suggests. Good luck and keep us posted.
