As my last post tells you, I am getting out of this industry for awhile to take a job that will actually cover my bills. It is depressing, but I search for automotive jobs daily in hopes to stay in it. This is what I find:

T[/url]wo years experience for $400.00/week BEFORE taxes? Is this really all there is to look forward to now?

That’s $10/hr if I remember my math. Unbelievable.

It does look like an entry level tech job though – fluid changes, tire repair (plugging?), and brake inspection.

This is the very reason I deliver pizzas full time while I’m in school. Working just a hair under 40 hours a week (we aren’t allowed overtime) I usually clear over $600 a week. Even when I graduate, I intend to go into a shop part time, say 3 days a week, and continue to work 4-5 nights a week at the pizza shop, because I can’t live on $10 and hour with my tool account bill and the school loans I will be paying on by next year, along with raising my 1 year old son.

I think this hits on the point– there are a lot of people out there that just plain need a job, any job. Until that changes, its an employer’s market.

If you have a place to work, you should think about doing some weekend/evening automotive work. Just spread the word among your friends that you’ll do a good job a lot cheaper than the professional places. Some of those people out there keeping their cars longer would also like a break on the price of repairs. With shops charging $90/hr there’s a lot of room for you to undercut them and still make out pretty well.

Go spend 20,000.00 on an education to be offered the same wages as a non-educated person for skilled labor. Then come back. It’s not my fault I am marketable in multiple industries, nor is it wrong or someone to want to be paid what they are worth. Until then get off my case, especially if you think a mechanic and a burger flipper at McDonalds do the same level of work, since the wages are the same.

man…, I understand what your going through.
I have some people that think I should just diagnose their cars for free and that they only should have to pay if I fixed something.., I tell them the time and tools
                  I used are very costly.

Its hard to believe you would post some trash like this on this site. Here, we are all about helping each other out. You obviously don’t feel the same. I don’t think Spawned was whining. He was stating facts. I’m in the same boat, because of the the fact that I will have to work one 40 hour a week job and another 20 hour a week job, along with finding time to see my son (the reason I will be working said jobs) while in school which allows virtually no time to sleep. I congratulate you on whatever gig you have that allows you to look down on me and my ‘whining’. It’s not my fault that I have the skills required to have not just one job, but two. Whining would be if I was a skill-less dude that wouldn’t take a job at McDonald’s (which is always hiring) and blames the system and the economy. I agree with Spawned, because my education has cost me approximately $30k in school loans over 3 years, and the entry level tech doesn’t make monkey poo.

I guess your missing the point…Not everyone gets what they want when they want it…Take what ya have,it’s better than Nothing..Just because joe blow has an education with thousands of dollars in loans or tools or whatever doesn’t mean they can’t work for someone making less.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do to make anything to help out the family, kids, rent, whatever. So too bad soo sad your in this predicament but there are many many people out there with nothing,no job, that have skills like yourself.

But they do what they can do. Some may even have to switch professions, but those people are stuck with No job right now,and are hoping anything will come up.

YA got to deal with the ups and downs in life..And be greatful for what you have..Money isn’t everything, sure it helps, every little bit counts.better than nothing

it’s too bad you don’t like my response beefy, but i am just stating the facts..If ya got a job or two, be happy with it.

I will end my discusssion with I hope it all works out for ya Spawnedx..Just be greatful for what ya have..And within time it will get better. Don’t give up..

im in the lower rig in europe here.

Want to work , but there aint no work. So i try and help with car mechanics ( with a deu lot of help from Eric ) and keep my fridge filled with food.
Not the way to go cause its as the tax organization calls it “Black Money” ( which is illegal )

Try keep heads up with the work though cause no work, life is a …… you get the idea.

                        Regards
