i have a 94 jeep grand cherokee(zj).it runs at normal temp when driving it normal but when i take it wheeling the temp under the hood is so hot that u cant even touch the windshield washer bottle.it doesnt really overheat but the temp does go up a bit.i was wondering if any one has any ideas on how to get the heat out from under the hood. ive already took the liner out.

There are several ways to lower the temperature.
#1. Wrap the exhaust manifold back to the catalytic converter to keep the heat inside the pipe until it is beyond the firewall.
#2. Put a free flowing muffler in place of the restrictive unit to let more exhaust gas and heat escape out the tail pipe.
#3. Add additional airflow through the radiator by installing an electric fan or fan’s.
#4. Create a path of less resistance for the air to flow such as a hood scoop or hole in the hood. The problem with this option is that water etc.. will have another way into the compartment as well.
#5. Removing the a/c condenser from in front of the radiator to increase airflow through the radiator. If the a/c system works I would leave it hooked up though.
#6. For extreme off road only vehicles you can move the radiator to the back of the vehicle with electric fans providing the air flow. This option is the most extreme but is also the most effective because it keeps the radiator cleaner and adds a lot of coolant to the system with all the extra piping that has to be used. Hope this helps.

          Take the hood off.

You could try running a oil and trans cooler.

I would install a electric fan too is you haven’t already.

you may need a bigger core radiator.jeep never put big enough
              core rads in.

what is happening is the engine will be under high load but with not much airflow. i had a similar problem with my old 81 GMC Jimmy and the extra electric cooling in front of the radiator did cool things down..

the jeep isnt as open as the Jimmy (K5 Truck) under the hood, so you might need more vent to get the hot air out..

i do see lots of wheelers remove the hoods which could be a solution…

I’m on board with this however my solution is to add an electric cooling fan to increase airflow under the hood. I agree that the issue is that you’re really working the engine and there is little to no airflow to help cool the engine. However removing the hood doesn’t cost anything and may solve the problem.

i thought about dual electric fans and getting rid of my clutch fan and a hood scoop before.i just didnt know if that was my best options or if there were other ones out there.thanks for all the sugestion.
