This is a strange problem as it only happened 2 times. Here is the story.

I was driving my daewoo to the store. When I stopped at a stop sign the car shook violently. Left off the brake it stopped. So i decided to go to a empty parking lot and try to recreate what it did. I turned down the stereo rolled down the window and pushed the brake to a complete stop about 5 seconds later RPMs on the engine went way down I could hear it. It dropped so low the car sputtered for 2 seconds than RPMs went back to normal. This is the 1st time this happened what could it be?

A bit of info that may be helpful: I have about 30% of gas left (a little above 1/4 tank) I had the heat on (its in the 40s) and the car was only about 1/2 to its normal OP temp when this happened,

Nitrous? lol. the only thing I can think of, is something designed for not allowing the transmission to shift into overdrive. much like the overdrive lockout on a late 90’s and newer automatic pickup truck, for towing purposes mostly. not sure why your car would need something of that sort though. look it up in your owners manual, don’t have one? see your dealer, or the internet!

Yep that’s what it is… many cars late 90’s and mid 2000s still had OD lockouts… I think the autotrans on the focus actually kept it until 2008. Because the focus ATX always wanted to go into overdrive, and if you were towing something it might slip into it at the wrong time… ’cause whe you have a 2.0 with a 1200 pound towing capacity things can get a little silly LOL… Also it will let you select the exact gear you want to be in, 1st, 2nd then into DRIVE you could select between 3rd and overdrive.

If the lanos is like my moms civic then you won’t really use overdrive unless your going over 60mph… the 2006 year is very high geared…

If it is the same thing as “HOLD” on my grandpas oveo, then it is used to limit the engine from passing 3000rpm…

so im a bit confused here will if get better or worse fuel milage with the PWR light on? Is it in OD lockout WHEN the PWR light is on or off?

HOLD starts the car off in 2nd gear

EDIT: its Aveo not Oveo. The Aveo IS a Daewoo. from what i have read it has bother a POWER and a HOLD button on the shifter.

Really that is dependent on cars, with the light on, Over drive should be enabled, when you driving at highway speeds you’ll get better MPG in most cars, what over drive means is that wheels are turning faster than the engine… 1st and 2nd are normally underdrive and 3rd is normally about at a 1:1 ratio

I don’t know if hold starts in second gear or not, but I know it wont let the rpms rise above 3000rpm… I’ve tried, petal to the floor and it would not go above 3000 rpm until I disabled it… I’ve had a little fun in my grandpas car…

And yes the oveo or aveo or whatever is a modified daewoo, they just took it and made it better in some aspects and worse in others… I like the way you sit in the aveo, it’s a little more SUV like, but feels like a car, when you’re almost 6′ it’s nice to have a bit of SUV flavor in it…

Ok thanks to me having my car plaster on CarDomain a fellow user said this

The power button makes it where the car downshifts sooner when you hit the gas pedal (for extra acceleration). You get more power, but worse gas mileage. I only use it when passing. By default it is in economy mode which has mediocre acceleration, but great gas mileage.

The Aveo is spelled Aveo but put pronounced Oh-Vee-Oh Its not a modified Daewoo infact the Aveo is a Daewoo Kalos its identical to the Lanos in pretty much every way (except body shape and brake Calipers). its the Successor of the Lanos.

EDIT: i cant compare the Lanos to the likes of a SUV (chances are if you got behind the wheel of any MY Lanos you would most likely say the same thing.) as ive never been behind the wheel of a SUV.
