This is a strange problem as it only happened 2 times. Here is the story.

I was driving my daewoo to the store. When I stopped at a stop sign the car shook violently. Left off the brake it stopped. So i decided to go to a empty parking lot and try to recreate what it did. I turned down the stereo rolled down the window and pushed the brake to a complete stop about 5 seconds later RPMs on the engine went way down I could hear it. It dropped so low the car sputtered for 2 seconds than RPMs went back to normal. This is the 1st time this happened what could it be?

A bit of info that may be helpful: I have about 30% of gas left (a little above 1/4 tank) I had the heat on (its in the 40s) and the car was only about 1/2 to its normal OP temp when this happened,

Something doesn’t seem right about that…

For one the VGIS is what I was talking about earlier with providing high High RPM power but not affecting low end torque…

That is what that huge silver thing is on your engine, I don’t understand it 100% but I know that it has 2 stages.

            1) Swirl:

At low RPMs it’s best for the air to be twirled along long narrow pathways, this creates a swirl effect that one in the engine reduces knocking and allows the engine to produce more torque…

            2)Pressurisation:

A special “tuned” path can create a somewhat supercharging effect from engine vacume, however with a set pathway this “tuned” intake only works during a short RPM band.

The VGIS is a long manifold with butterfly or flapper valves to help create air flow in more RPM than what would be possible with a single tuned manifold…

EDIT: here is more in depth on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_length_intake_manifold

            ===================================================================================================

The other thing is that the MAP/MAF sensor should be on your intake piping…

Unless those are some form of control units, i’m sticking to what I called them in my second video…

The service manual said that black thing is the VGIS but that is actaully what activates the VGIS Solinoid Via Vacuum pressure

what i maked as the MAP sensor is indeed correct according to the service manual and part search. Its simply mounter to the Firewall it has a line (no sure if it is under vacuum) that connects to the throttle body.

The MAF sensor (or as what Daewoo Calles it the ITS (Intake Tempature Sensor) is a seperate sensor which is in the Airbox hose going to the TB.

another question… the Airbag Control Module (or the SDM as Daewoo calls it) is what is turning on the Air Bag light because i pulled the Air Bag fuse. if i unplug the SDM will the airbag light go out?

Why do you want to disable the air bags?

I do not condone removing air bags nor will I have any part in disabling them. They are there for your safety. Purposely disarming safety components is never a good idea. I’d rather have an air back break my nose than receiving a concussion, major brain damage, or damaging my spinal column.

I’ll do my best to help you mechanically and electrically. But I draw the line at safety features.

If the airbags have already deployed, then pull them from another daewoo from a junkyard or off ebay.

Simple reason. My mom had a 1997 Tracer wagon she was T-Boned beat up badly driver airbag pushed her backward giving severe whiplash passenger airbag smacked her to the left into the drivers door. All said and done she had badly dislocated neck, fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, sine AND every single rib. She still suffers to this day and has no been able to work since. This wouldnt of happened without the airbags. My sister had a 1995 Beretta single driver airbag she ran off the road and all she had was a black and blue bruised chest and chin (of course her accident was different). So i dont like air bags for that main reason. Reason 2: the second airbags deploy insurance companies total out the car could be 1 week old could be 5 years old When airbags deploy (passenger expecially) the windshield gets shattered. Airbags cost $1500 per bag Windshield is around $400 plus all the body damage from the accident if air bags deploy car is automatically totaled simple as that. Reason 3: There is a recall in the airbag system for my car.

Well i filled up the gas the other day seems to be gone not only has it never acted up again but the vibration in the steering wheel is completely gone maybe the car had some bad gas go thru? maybe it was because one tyre had more air pressure than the other did (i let air out to match the other)?

Both are possibilities, if you had ethanol in your gas it could have absorbed some water and your engine could have been sucking in water causing problems at low RPMs.

Vibrations in steering wheel could have been caused by uneven air pressure… yes…

all gas has 10% Ethanol in it. speaking of such, Can you put E85 into any car that wasnt marketed as “FlexFuel”?

No, actually I buy gas from a local gas station that contains no ethanol…

And yes you can, but don’t do it. You’ll have no power, and get horrible economy…

i dont think there is Ethanol free gas in my neck of the woods i just dump in 87 octane. Isnt E85 suppose to be BETTER fuel economy as it has less gas in it?

No, it’s supposed to deplete greenhouse gasses and drop foreign dependency on oil by taking perfectly good food that starving homeless people could use and turning it into fuel. Actually, you’ll travel 33-40% further on the equivalent 1 gallon of pure gasoline compared to E85.

use your judgement on the mileage intended for service via your manual. under absolute valuables they are spot on. but if you only go to X gas station because their fuel is cheapest, it may be “dirty” fuel, having more deposits in it. needless to say. if it says change every 60k miles, and you suspect a possibility of it being damaged (letting particles through to your engine) or faulty, why wait 20k miles to change it, fuel filters should not be that expensive, and I would rather spend 10 dollars and some change on something that makes my car run better then on a shift knob to make my car look better, but serves no real purpose. (id rather drill a hole in a stolen 8-ball then some of the expensive billet aluminum ones they have now.) when it comes to car care. all go, no show > no go, all show. hands down every time. trailer queens and guys with decked out mustangs with crappy 3.8L v6 can kiss my rear : )

I will change the fuel filter if the problem comes back so far it hasnt and as far as “cheap” gas goes its all the same price here but i have a discount card so i get anywhere from .05-1.50 off a gallon each fill up (I gas up once a month)
