I was changing the lower intake gasket on my 00 Camaro v6 .while I was putting it back together I dropped the bolt from the vacuum line from the power brake booster somewhere in the back of the engine I checked and I couldn’t find it anywhere. Inside the intake manifold I figured it fell back somewhere in the engine compartment ..I put everything back together again and I went to go start it I heard a loud clunking sound and then the engine wouldn’t turn over any more .any suggestions

Sounds to me like you’ll be taking things apart again.

Is their any way to check maybe without pulling the heads apart

probably feed a borasope in the intake and feed it as close to the valves as you can.

You can feed a scope down the intake runners and/or the spark plug holes.

You can look all you want, but taking things apart is required if you want to salvage this engine.

By your description… ( your not gonna like this )
I’d be willing to bet that bolt you dropped has jammed one of the rear cylinder intake valves open and the piston has come up and wedged against it.

                Best case:
You damaged the valve, valve seat, head or all three.
                Worst case:
See above and damaged the piston.

Either case appears you will be doing a tear down of at least the intake, exhaust and heads to see the extent of the damage.

How much would the cost be for a job like that.I would do it myself but my mechanics skills only go so far . I don’t wanna ruin something else .is it better to just get an engine overhaul or just pay for that procedure .Another question would the engine have to be taken out to do the procedure not the overhauling.

The cost will be dependent on a few factors:
Your talking about a 16 year old vehicle, there may be fasteners that will strip or break.
Also, you may want to consider the “might as well” items … water pump, etc
Second would be to consider the extent of the damage.
If it is limited to just the valve and seat or if extends to the head and piston.
You plan for the worst and hope for the best
                    As to an overhaul..
You are the only one who can say if it is worth the cost.
Most engine rebuilds are done with it removed from the vehicle for ease.
My only suggestion would be start shopping around for prices.
Might also consider getting price quotes for a suitable long block replacement, it may prove a replacement may be cheaper in the long run than a rebuild of the existing motor.
