      Hey Eric!

I was actually looking around the net today about this.

Comparing oil filters! What is better? A Filter that filters the smallest possible particles (that could clog the filter quicker), or one that filters slightly larger particles, to keep from getting clogged up as/too easily?

I know you’ve got the engine oil videos, and I very much appreciate those, But what about the filters!

I used Napa Gold on my LSXmotor last time I did the oil. These motors with the aluminum block have a reputation for really crudding up the oil. I guess these Napa filters are Wix, which are supposed to be better than other filters. I have heard about bad things about Fram filters, although never had much trouble with them. Others have opinions I am sure, probably better than mine because I don’t do a lot of them. Some guys here probably do many per day and would be the ones to ask.

I don’t really feel like I’m an expert in this area. Also, as you pointed out, there’s a lot of info out there. Not to say it wouldn’t be a good topic, I just don’t know when I’d get to it. I’ll certainly consider it.

          Thanks for the suggestion.

The best filter is the one the parts guy gives you to fit 😆

The question it’s self in it’s most basic form is fairly simple if you have a new clean engine you want a finer oil filter to keep it as clean as possible with regular oil changes to keep the filter from clogging.

Older cars tend to have courser filters and the tolerances aren’t as tight and they are more forgiving of swarf.

that being said you’ll struggle to find any info from most oil filter manufacturers of the actual spec of the oil filter and for day to day use just buy a good quality filter from a named brand that is designed for your vehicle.
