Hey Eric, do you think that synthetic oil still should be changed at normal interval of 3-4K miles or is it really good for 7500+K miles like its advertised?

It will work for more miles than advertised. I can see it still being viable to 7500 pretty easy considering it costs about double. If in doubt, there’s a way to check its performance in your car. Go to a semi truck repair shop or especially a Caterpillar or a Cummins factory repair facility. Buy a couple of oil sample kits from them. I think they are $25 or so but don’t quote me. Take a sample of your oil and send it in to them. They will get back to you with how much of everything they find in it, and let you know how much life is left in it. Trucking companies use it to alert them to upcoming problems with their trucks and allow them to extend their maintenance intervals out safely so they save money. If you wanted to know if coolant was getting in your oil it will show you in parts per million, well before you could even test under the hood and know you had a problem. Do a few of those tests and the results will let you know how far you can run this and still give your engine the proper protection it needs.

Long life oil only applies to engines that do not loose oil. If the state of the rings is good and oil consumption is very low then you should be able to do 5K+ between changes. The problem arrises when the engine is not so good and a lot of fuel contaminants blow by the pistons and mix with the oil. This dilutes the oil and adds carbon particles etc.

I’ve seen owners manual say to change the oil accordingly whether or not using synthetic or non synthetic.

You will be wasting your money changing synthetic oil
at 3-4k. 8-10k is about right under normal driving conditions.;)

                Ditto to above.

No benefit from all the reading I’ve done to changing super-early so long as you’re using a decent filter. If it’s synthetic and it states it’s good to 7500, I’d do it at that, or just a bit before. And if I was super-concerned by it, I’d do as nickwarmer suggests and just have it tested, the kits are relatively cheap if you’re in doubt. Get not only a good idea how well the oil is doing/will do, but the health of the engine overall as well.

I use synthetic so I don’t have to change my oil ever couple months. I pull 5k to 8k per change on a GM 3800 Series III and have no issues with my motor what so ever. I hit 95k this week and its still running strong.

BTW, at least here, walmart has quakerstate synthetic for 26 bucks for a 5 quart jug, can’t beat it with a stick.
