just bought a 2005 Dodge Stratus STX with the 2.7L V6 engine, i was informed by a friend that this engine has extremely tiny oil ports in it to lube the timing system and to be proficient with the oil changes, however i have no history on this car, for maintenance and other things, there is a sort of squeak/tick that varies with the RPM from the engine, other than that the engine runs fine, i’m about to take a trip to new york, i live in kentucky so rount trip will be over 1400 miles, any suggestions i do to this car vs normal oil change etc. to keep this engine alive for a long time, having just bought it. a friend suggested marvel mystery oil. however i’m skeptical of using any additives in the oil that is that thin, as this engine already uses thin 5W30 oil, i appreciate and thank you for your assistance. D.
P.S. this engine has a tad over 105,300 miles

If you could post a video of the noise to help us hear it
that would be great. Since the cars service history is non
existent. I would change all the fluids to now have a service
history.I believe that is a mitsubishi engine. Which arent really known for reliability. Noise is pretty common. OIl changes are vital. Without hearing the noise, its hard to say, but its usually top end noise or timing chain slap. Possibly worn tensioner or stretched chain.
If its running fine, and compression is good, I wouldnt really worry too much about it. Maybe have the chain checked for looseness, and if that is ok, just be consistent with oil changes. 3-4 thousand in between
I WORK ON A LOT OF 2.7 ENGINES AND I NO THAT MOTOR HAS A WATER PUMP THAT BEGINS TO SING AND SQUEAK SO I WOULD TRY TO POST THAT NOISE OR HAVE IT CHECKED OUT IF YOU CANT DO IT YOURSELF BECAUSE IF IT IS A TIMING CHAIN OR WATER PUMP IT CAN DAMAGE THE ENGINE.

IT SOUNDS LIKE IT SUCKING AIR AND AROUND THAT THERASTAT HOUSING IT LOOKS LIKE IT MIGHT BE LEAKING COOLANT OR HAS BEN LEAKING IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE YOU MAY A EXHAUST LEAK AND THAT TICK COULD JUST BE THE VALVE TRAIN.MAYBE THIS WILL HELP.

The elbow that you see on the video failed a lots of time… the part are glued togheter and start sipping … over time it dry out and give you that crusty look. It almost sound like you have and exhaust leak at the manifold but might be wrong… you can here pulsating …. and as well as a vacuum leak… which is that hissing noise. a smoke test you show the obvious.. but you can take a piece of rubber (5/8) and run all around the engine until you find the leak…
I really don’t hear anything serious in your video. It looks like there might be a coolant leak where the upper rad hose connects that you might address.
The 2.7 Chrysler is known to be one of the worst engines, ever, beside the Chevrolet Vega. Just Google 2.7 reliability. They build up sludge inside and self destruct.
Keep the oil level topped up and change it frequently and it might last a while.
I may be hearing things but to me it sounded loudest by the power steering. See if there are any bubbles in the reservoir. If there are, this could be the culprit. More info here.

I don’t think your engine is coming apart. Just be sure to keep the oil topped off on your trip and use the correct viscosity.
