      Hi Guys,

My car has been having some issues. Particularly in cold weather.

Start Car: Makes a crackle noise.

Let run and the RPM shuffles slightly up and down but then settles. The after about 1 minute of warmth the rpm is stable at around 1100rpm. Once driven around a lot the RPM is around 600-800.

The car idle starts to sound rough seems to vibrate a bit. No idea what it could be. Changed the VANOS sensors (CAM Sensor) recently and I unplugged the MAF sensor this morning and it made things worse so I know its not that.

No idea what it could be. No codes show up and also you will notice a light on the dash but that is just the parking brake.

Here is a link to the video. Prob best to put on headphones to listen. You will hear that it is a bit rough.

Any ideas what it could be? Some forums said this vintage tends to have bad injectors.

The video shows private so we’re not able to view it. That said, some information on the vehicle you’re working on would be helpful. Year, make, model. Outside of that I’ve written extensively about solving idle problems in this article. I recommend you look through it for solutions to the issues you’re having.

          Oh sorry about that

Also, here is the link to the crackle noise when it starts in the morning. Could it be related? You will hear the crackle at about 7-8 seconds.

I have used the injector cleaner, did not help. and I believe all sensors are good unless they are not coming up as codes.

Also probably best to wear headphones for these videos

You might start by checking for vacuum leaks. Also check for any air leaks in the tube that runs from the MAF sensor to the throttle body. Any leaks here can cause the issues you’re having.

As for the noise, it’s difficult to say. Perhaps something with the exhaust shielding. More info on finding and fixing noises here.
