      So yesterday I`m driving up a steep hill, i got stuck behind a large truck, my gmc jimmy, was hitting about 2500 usually just before it shifts, , i had it at 2500 and it didst shift, the engine light came on and i could smell what i imagined to be oil burning , it seems to be running fine now , just curies if this has happened to anyone and what did they find their issue was .

        one possibility could be that the torque converter got hot.

        Q: what code(s) were associated with your check engine light?

          The only clue to your problem might come from a fault code stored in the engine computer memory. An Auto parts store could scan it for you to see if there are any fault codes stored. If there is a code you can post it here for a possible answer.

            very broad question, you going up a steep hill like that you oil pump could have been not pumping correctly or low on ATF. and it could have been setting a MIL Code

              I agree with the above posts: If the SES light came on and is off now it should still have a history code.

                I went to Princess Auto and picked up a rather nice OBD-2 , got the codes and reset the engine light , just tracking the codes down , thanks for the help 🙂
