      she said she over filled her transmission and the light is on saying the tranny is getting hot. its a 2002 jeep grand cheerokee. is there a drain plug on it , or does the pan need to be dropped? thanks anyone for a quick responce .

        I can’t answer if it’s got a drain plug but you can snake a hose down the fill tube and use a hand pump to remove excess fluid. That could prevent having to drop the pan.

          The fluid could be overheating due to foaming caused by the overfill. I agree with just having some sucked out of the fill tube and this needs to be done quickly as foaming leading to overheating means slippage and can mean a new transmission is on the horizon.

          Just a followup question or two. Was it overfilled with transmission fluid or something else?
          Has the trans been leaking and is that the reason for adding fluid?

          If the trans has been leaking it’s also possible that low fluid has doomed it and it’s overheating due to clutch slippage caused by running it low.
