🙁 I have a problem with a 1.4i EJ9 Civic, it decides to judder at 4000rpm and then stalls and cuts out with no MIL/EML light, i’ve checked its not the key barrel as ETCG said in one video and i have also checked the oil so the pressure doesn’t die as some people have problems with VTEC solenoids which mine doesnt have VTEC anyway. Any tips at all on what to do?

I did some research on this topic. Everything I found online leads to oil pressure. What I found was that a bunch of people are having the same problem and most have thrown parts at it with no success. The only people that had success was by changing their oil or they had an obstruction that caused an oil flow issue.

I would change the oil even if you have already done so recently. It’s possible the tech put the wrong viscosity oil which is thicker than required reducing it’s ability to flow through all the tiny holes at high RPM. Make sure you check the manual for what is recommended for you vehicle.

Changing the oil seams to me to be the cheapest fix especially with no Check Engine Light.

With that said there still may be a code but the light is not functioning.

What condition is your catalytic converter in? Could it be plugged up and restricted?

Changing the oil is easy enough and if you get a result, then you know where to look if the issue shows up again.

I wouldn’t worry about the catalytic converter just yet, but here’s the test to check for an exhaust restriction.

Keep in mind that if you do find an exhaust restriction that doesn’t mean the catalytic converter is at fault. It could also be a muffler problem or other damage to the exhaust.

                Keep us posted.

Turns out it was the plug connector to the distributor. As the engine hit 4k rpm it was vibrating so much it would wobble it loose. I have used zipties to hold it over to the right where it should be so it can’t shake off to the left and cut out as a temporary fix while i can get enough money together to buy a new plug or distributor :/ But i will watch ETCG distributor video on how to do it to help me 😀
