Ok I’m new to the forum posting thing so I ask that you guys hang in there with me lol.
-2004 Cadillac SRX V8 4.3L AWD (US, South Carolina)
I have been trying to figure out a way to have my ECM reflashed without having to pay well over $1,500!!!. This will be the third ECM placed in this vehicle, but the very first time I would have to put one in (the ECM was replaced before they sold it to me).My intentions is to sell this vehicle because it has been nothing but a pain in my rear and I’m just not up for putting in more money into this monster. It started out throwing a throttle actuator code and I replaced the throttle body(throttle by wire/cable), did the relearn sequence, etc. The anti-theft system is fine. After fighting with it for some time, I took it to the dealer to have them tell me its the ECM and they want $$$$$ not happening lol.

So my questions are, is there any experienced technicians that know how to reflash the ECM or bypass the ECM at all (and can walk me through it)?How hard would this process be? Any additional information would be greatly appreciate!

try taking it to a autoparts store like autozone or orielys. they usually have a scanner that clears codes

It can’t be done as far as I know. If you’re going to install a new ECM it will have to be programmed to work with your vehicle. There really is no way around that. Perhaps you can save money by doing the installation yourself and having the dealer do the reprogramming for you.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I’ve been trying to find a shop or mechanic that would reflash it for me, but the crazy thing is no one (not even the dealer) wants to touch it. But I will shop around alittle and see if anyone can do a reflash. Thanks for the quick responses!

Out of curiosity what makes everyone think the ECM is bad? throwing codes?

I’m no master mechanic but I do know bypassing it just isn’t gonna happen….unless you wan’t a car that does not run at all…then you can bypass it all you want .

Well this particular year make and model is known for ECM/PCM issues. My vehicle has had the computer replaced twice already(a new computer was put in when I purchased it…. go figure lol) then the codes that are being thrown are Throttle Body Actuator (replaced it already and relearn procedure) and an code for the ECM. Also I got tired of fighting the vehicle myself and took it to a shop and they stated that it was the ECM or security system (not the security system). The problem is the vehicle wont start so it has been immobile since DECEMBER…..so basically ….the vehicle already doesn’t run at all lol.

Any suggestions for a dealership or individual who will reprogram a ECM in the South Carolina area would be greatly appreciated because I’m having no luck on my end :(. I’m even willing to ship the ECM off if possible.
