A few mouths ago I went to north Dakota.
A few days after i got there – One morning I find my truck is shifting late (3000 to 5000rpms) I ran codes on the truck and found a fail shift solenoid circuit code. I spent every min tracking every wire looking for the issue…
A weak later I came to the thought of a bad ecm… (Iv never seen a ecm just fail on the shifting side)
I changed the ecm and my shifting issues wear gone. (O BTW) My radio started working again after the ecm change.

Since then iv noticed other issues…

A few days after being home… My check engine light comes on after driving 15 mins or so. The truck has felt real sluggish/dogish
Iv never had a cel come on in this truck before.
After the truck is warmed up shifting to or from P-R-n-D the truck will die… Once in gear it will run fine – Its just when I shit into a gear…

Hear what I think maybe going on…

      My truck is a 93 ford f150 5.0 super cab with a e40d trans.
The truck I got the ecm from was a 90 ford f150 5.0 regular cab.(I did match the ecm number and they wear the same.
I think the 90 model ecm is set a little lean then my stock ecm.
Maybe the ecm is set a little more rich in mine due to (Weight -mine being a super cab) Or maybe its just how they did the engine is 93.
When I check for codes I got a code number
      172 – HEGO (HO2S) sensor fault/lean…

Here is a list of the other codes I got… Most of these – Im not to worried about (Iv seen them before and so have others and it appears to be a ford thing) Also A gentleman told me the fallowing about some of the codes.

Also, it may be the computer is expecting you to push the switch as part of the KOER test and you aren’t doing it. There are several push-this, press-that sort of things involved with the KOER test.

I would put the old ECM back in, and replace the solenoid shift pack in the transmission get a new one from Ford

An ECM replacement is the very last thing listed on any troubleshooting chart. I know you say you checked the wires but my question is how? Did you check the wires with an ohm meter going from the actuator all the way back to the PCM? Did you check for signals coming from the ECM to the solenoids? How about checking the voltage drop to see if there was a short somewhere? If not there could be a break in the wiring or a short somewhere causing the problem and it was never the ECU to start with.

I pulled the wiring harness and pro all the wires (I checked for connectivity)
I even pulled the plastic black protector around the wires and check for possible weak areas.

After changing the ecm the shifting was perfect again.(very crisp)
I just have a issue with the truck wanting to die when its warmed up when manually changing gears.

87honda accord I did that. In-fact I had to buy a whole transmission from a guy i knew up there to get the solenoid…. Autozone wanted 500 new and a scap yard wanted 250 for a used one… The trans I got is good (I drove the truck I pulled the transmission from)…

I had a code for a failed shit solenoid circuit -Not a failed shit solenoid.

Im very experienced with the e40d in the 90s f150s and e150s.

172 is a o2 sensor code so you need to see if your o2 sensor is switching correctly. You can use a scope or a DVOM and make sure your seeing a 0.1v to 0.9v switch.

If you do not see the voltage switching, i would try to induce a vacuum leak or add propane and see if that help.

334 – That is for your EVR sensor (EGR Vacuum Regulator solenoid). You need to see if you have power as well as making sure the EVR solenoid is energizing when commanded by the PCM.

On OBD1 Fords, you need to make sure all the KOEO codes are fixed before working on any KOER codes.
