dual overhead cam timing belt replacement

after lining up marks on new timing belt, i rotated crank 6 or 7 times, but the marks don’t reline up. is that normal?

Pulleys to engine marks should line up every other crank revolution. Pulleys to belt marks may take 100 crank revolutions to line up again.

As pointed out the belt marks won’t line up every time. This is because engineers design timing belts to be ‘hunting’, meaning they are designed to move the belt a tooth or so every revolution so that the belt does not make contact in the same place on the gears every time. That said, this means that it is sometimes difficult to get the timing marks to line up exactly when doing a belt replacement. So to answer your question, they may be slightly off but they should still get pretty close. Since you got it started I suppose it’s a non issue. Thanks for keeping us updated.
