I have been thinking about this for a while.

Newer cars are getting things like automatic reverse parking, Hill start assist and collision mitagation.

I think that all these things are reducing overall drivers skill.

Why learn how to reverse park when the car can do it for me, same applies to hill start assist.

With things like collision mitagion people may start to think that they do not have to pay attention as the car will stop in an emergency.

Incidents like the sheppey crossing crash where 100 cars crashed and reports said that many people had there headlights and foglights off kinda says people are relying on the cars AUTO headlights(if it is fitted).

But also says that people dont think in heavy fog.

Does anyone else think that driving aids are going too far and cars should be more simple?

Some driving aids are a sure bonus, but I agree sometimes the car makers are taking it a bit too far. Or well they are not, but people are trusting it too much.

That is why my dream vehicles are always from before all of the electrical nannies came along. That is why I got my wife a 02 Saturn L100 no power anything no cruise control so she has to pay attention and I get a car that is easy to work on.

I personally don’t like aids and thus like driving my Corrado more than driving my friends Audi A6(He left it in my care for 4 months). Some elecronic aids are good like ABS and on some cars ESC (first gen MB A class will roll without it). For me less is more, it keeps you focused on driving and traffic.
Even automatic gearbox is a pointless luxury for me, manual gearbox also discourages talking on cellphone while driving.

While i do agree with things like EPS, ABS, TCS and ESC.

But if any of these are to fail, the driver may not know how to act in an emegency
eg car gets ABS failure, guy is going to a mechanic, kid runs out on to road, wheels lock.
