      ive worked with a lot of jeep and dodge vehicles and any time i work with nuts that use cotter pins, i always tighten to torque spec. if the cotter pin doesnt fit in the hole/slot, i keep tightening it until i can get a cotter pin in. generally, by doing

            If it’s a tapered roller bearing same as in the video you can NOT put a preload on it or it will damage the bearing.

                I agree follow the FSM, i believe as a rule of thumb there should be .005 end play of the bearings, if you choose to bust out a dial indicator and be that precise.
