The clutch on my ’92 Miata was slow to engage for ages, and started slipping really badly in gear a few weeks ago. I just got it back with a fancy new clutch/flywheel and there is still plenty of material on the old one(though the pressure plate has some uneven wear). I looked up images and the old one is almost certainly the original. The slave cylinder was also leaky, but that shouldn’t cause slow engagement or slippage in-gear. Is it possible that the material had aged to the point that it was no longer effective? Has anybody ever seen this before?
Thanks!
