I have been working on a customers truck a 1996 Dodge 5.7 engine and I know it is in the correct way and I put antifreeze in an I noticed the p0118 code. I noticed the ECT sensor was cracked so I replaced it thinking the problem was solved but the code is still there. I have full coolant a new ect sensor a new thermostat and new radiator and I tried to clear the code and it won’t clear. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The ect sensor you got does it have Two pins or one pin. the connector should have
two pins same for the ect sensor. check that the part store gave you the right sensor.
The one pin connector is for the gauge.

The one I did replace had one pin. It was cracked so does that mean the ect is faulty as well since that is the gauge part I replaced.I was on alldata and it shows a 2 pin but the exact location of the 2 pin is the same location of the one I replaced which has 1 wire going to it. When I ordered the part they asked 1 or 2 wire. I’m lost on this job. I trust you college man so what did I replace. Could there be a 1 pin ect. Thanks

I believe you replaced the gauge/sender sensor. To prove the theory start the truck warm it up
and unplug the sensor the temp gauge should go dead. The ect lives either under the ac or around
that area. should be a two wire connector. see if this helps.

Thanks college man it’s a fix. Somehow I missed the ect by the AC come to find out somehow the connector came loose so I plugged it in and the truck started and runs like a champ. Thanks for all your help.
