Hey guys, I’m putting new O-rings on the bottom of each spark plug well of a 1988 Honda, will I need to put new head bolts in when I remove the old ones? A friend said I have to, but what do you all think? Thanks

I’d definitely replace them. The stress, temperature change, etc. can cause stretching and may not retain the same torque as before.

I don’t think Honda used TTY bolts. You should be able
          to reuse the bolts.

I think i read or heard somewhere that they started stopped using TTY bolts in the early 90’s… something about Spiral threaded headbolts or something like that. It’s a good point to make though.. your car may not have TTY bolts.

If all you are doing is replacing the plug well oil seals you should only have to remove the rocker assembly hold down bolts. should not need to remove any head bolts. I believe eric has a vid posted for this service as well as briansmoble1 at youtube.

Thanks a lot guys, I’m not going to replace them, just clean them up before I re-install.

First, if you’re just replacing the spark plug well seals you don’t need to remove the cylinder head. Also, those are NOT TTY bolts so you DO NOT need to replace them when removing the cylinder head.
