I have a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado 350 motor. I want to replace the Delphi A/C clutch but i am having one hell of a time finding the clutch kit. I wen to NAPA, Advanced Auto, Auto Zone and Car Quest. They all have remanufactured kits and it states they all are perfect fits for my 1998 Chevy Silverado truck….The issue that worries me is that they don’t say Delphi on the box or part store website. I can purchase a whole new Delphi compressor though.

Has anyone ran into this problem? My A/C compressor is 2-years old , but the clutch plate has galled up. Maybe Delphi had issues with this year of A/C clutches and they have all be pulled from the shelves.

I wouldn’t worry much about the aftermarket manufacturer. It doesn’t have to be Delphi. Very rarely will you find on OEM part sold on the aftermarket.

Now as far as quality goes, that will depend on your budget.
        Hope this helps.

Well the clutch plate of the A/C kit is not the same as far as the spring deflection goes.
The one off my truck which is a Delphi clutch plate has spring deflection. The aftermarket has zero spring deflection. That worries me, shouldn’t the clutch plate have spring deflection for when it engages? Isn’t that the whole reason behind the clutch plate.

The other concern is that the hub is a different length as shown in the attached screen shot. I don’t want an aftermarket part that doesn’t say Delphi compatible assembled on a Delphi compressor.

I don’t agree that we can mix and match components of different A/C compressor manufactures that all went on a 1998 Chevy Silverado K1500 truck. Like I said before I checked all parts stores–NAPA, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto and O’reilly. They all say one thing remanufactured for HT6 and perfect fit for a 1998 Chevy Silverado K1500 truck. I hope someone can shed some light on this subject.

If anything comes of this maybe we will all learn something. If anyone knows where to get a Delphi A/C clutch please let me know, for know I cleaned up the galling and clutch parts of the original and put it back on the truck for now.

🙂 If you want the original replacement A/C clutch replacement, I suggest you go Rock Auto .com online and order it. I just looked and the part was around 72 dollars plus shipping. If you want to look locally, you may want to look in your phone book and see if any Local parts house, not the chains carry Delphi parts, which was called Delco in the old days. Good Luck.

It’s likely that your replacement compressor was made in Mexico or China so who knows what parts were used on assembly. If you can’t find a clutch that matches you might need to replace the compressor again. Since the clutch failed in only two years it must be poor quality.

Ahh I misunderstood what your question was.
If the kit doesn’t match up, then obviously it won’t work.

You may try a Delphi catalog, or a scrap yard.
Other than that you’ll be looking at a new compressor.
Those are your only real options unfortunately.

                    That’s true..

I usually don’t include or recommend dealer parts because they have an outrageous markup.
Not to mention in a rebuild situation, this part may have been deemed faulty and a new revision could have been created.

You never know though. Worth a shot.
Bring in the components and find an old tech if any still exist.

It sounds like you’ve already made your mind up about the clutch that you want. Since the clutch is damaged, you should also check the compressor shaft for play. If there is any, just replacing the clutch isn’t going to do any good because it will likely fail in a short period of time. I know this is a different vehicle, but the principals are still the same.

                      This may also be useful.
