So I’m gonna tell you guys that I’m extremely bummed out right now.

I tried a new repair today…a power steering pump on my 2008 Grand Prix. You can see my issues complete with video on this thread:

Anyway…thank God I’m not on the flat rate system. An “average job” took me from 6 p.m. until 3 a.m. (today). All of that work, trying to do everything right, I bleed the system (I think I did it properly), I put the car down from the jackstands and turn the key.

My new power steering pump sounds just as terrible as the one that I needed to replace. And now to add to the problem when I pull out the cap to check the fluid level the fluid has a frothy texture.

I really cannot help but feel utterly defeated. 9 hours of work on something that is a cake walk for anyone with half a mechanical mind and now I’m gonna have to take it to a professional.

🙁 I am sorry that it took so long to complete your project. Before you go running to a mechanic, you may want to try this. Lift your front end up again and place it on jack stands. You need to start your engine and try turning your steering wheel from all the way left to all the way right, a few times and see if the power steering pump quiets down. I believe you still have some trapped air in the rack and it may take a few times of doing this till it will quiet down. The frothing is not a problem, it is just air in the fluid and it too will pass with time. I would try this a few times and then check your fluid level and top off if needed and see if this helps. Good Luck.

Yeah dont beat yourself up just yet. That pump has a remote mounted reservoir meaning it is much more likely you have trapped air in the system. Do like Slot said, get the front end up and turn from lock to lock while idling.
