Hey guys, I’m looking at this Accord here and I am considering buying it. It’s a ’97 with 119924 miles on it. It looks great, and the info about it really lures me to it. Yeah, it’s really high mileage, but this is what the guy says:

If the bold type is a quote, the seller is either a automotive laymen or does not speak good English. I’ve never heard the term “transmission system” and never heard of a transmission belt except on modern CVTs.

The other thing to point out is that 120k on a 97 is low miles, far from being really high mileage. My recently bought 99 Accord with 195k would be considered a normal amount of usage. Don’t be concerned about aftermarket belts anyway. There is no way it doesn’t need some kind of work if it’s under $2000. If there are no plates on it like in the picture, then how long it’s been sitting and why are worth a discussion. Aside for the reasons for that, brakes are the first thing to suffer if a car sits, so expect them to need possible attention once you start driving it.

I remember you from the CR-V with a used engine thread. You are on a good path trying to find a Honda. Used cars are treacherous, but you’re looking in a good direction.

As far as this is J-VIN # car, 119K miles is nothing.
Was the timing belt done? Main question to ask. Otherwise, routine maintenance, if it was done right – and it’s well worth $2K.

as everyone has already stated 119,000 is spring chicken on newer cars especially the late 90s consider that newer ish car. $2,000 seems to be a good price, just as long as he took good care of the car, as everyone has already stated how he has taken care of the car is important.

It’s been a long time since I owned a car with less than 119k miles. A friend of mine just bought a 2011 Honda with 110k miles! That’s actually very low for a ’97, make sure it wasn’t sitting for an extended period of time.

this is important, so many issues develop with a car that sits for extended periods, gaskets get hard and brittle along with O ring seals, things aren’t properly primed with oil… just leaks and issues galore.

At around an age of twenty years parts for vehicles start becoming hard to find.

@ Fopeano: Thanks a bunch man. Yeah, that CR-V thread is me. This interest started almost a month ago and I am just so hooked on this stuff haha. My love for Honda began with an ad showing me a blue ’95 Civic 2dr w/ 107000km on it for $500. I couldn’t believe it! But someone bought it, so I’m just trying to make it through this hard world finding other Hondas.

And everyone else thanks. I just wish this was a coupe!

I’m getting slightly off topic, but I need opinions thrown at me. I am currently deciding between a ’95 Civic EX (107,000km) with minor body damage and a ’97 Accord (not this one, I made a threat about it, the car’s red [186,000km]). I love 2 door Civics, but the Accord’s got more oomph. They’re both $2500. I’m planning on keeping the car I buy forever too. Which car?
